Dear Happy Girl

To all those out there who feel like they need to have it all together.

Dear Happy Girl,

It seems like everything is different right now. At least, different than your “typical“ norm. Everything has changed in an instant for you.

I think I speak for most of us when I say that it’s easy to get anxious about what’s next. I came across this verse today & it brought some things to mind.

“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7ESV

Giving us feelings wasn’t an afterthought for God. In fact, Jesus himself had them. It’s what we do with each one that’s important. When it comes down to it, we have 2 choices about how to handle them

  • We can process them with those we trust, though prayer & Bible study, giving each concern to God. Thus, letting truth guide our actions.
Or
  • We can let our feelings rule our actions.

Following Jesus doesn’t mean you and I are robots. We have to consciously make the choice to either let truth or fear guide our steps.

So, Happy Girl, you don’t have to have it all together. You can be sad that those plans were cancelled.

You can be sad you can’t see your church family.

You can be sad celebrating you looks a little different than you originally planned this year.

Happy Girl. It will get better.

Life Lessons from Coffee Chats

Today I had an unnamed person (we’ll call Jane) ask me if I wanted coffee. At first, I kindly declined. A little while later she asked me a 2nd time. However, this time I could tell she wanted more than me to just have a cup of coffee. ☕️  She wanted me to spend the time with her it took to drink that cup of coffee to talk with me. To ask me questions, learn about something she had been wondering about and gain better insight into a particular situation.  I think that’s why in the American culture when someone asks us to coffee, it’s either a quick yes or no answer because maybe we don’t want to spend time asking deeper questions of someone.  Our motivations might be different in each scenario but what if we said yes to coffee more often even if it’s not convenient for us? We might have assumptions or fears surrounding the other person’s motives. However, there’s no better way to gain clarity about them than asking vs assuming.  Trust me. It’s wayyyy easier said than done but in the l

Real Talk - Honor

Honor: Verb: regard with great respect  To be honest, I wasn’t ready sure what to write about this week. Everyone is talking about New Years resolutions, goals they’re setting, & what they want to do with the time they have this year.  Then it got me to thinking. What if we make resolutions to leave others better off than we find them? If they mistreat us, let’s teach them how to treat us right. If they do good to us, let’s applaud them.  It won’t be easy, but if we do it together & give it our best, we all will be better for it.  Reminder:  9  Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast  to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor . Romans 2:9-10 ESV Challenge:  Choose 1 person this week to honor.
